President’s Report – Natasha Tang JP

Over the past year, the Buddhist Council of Western Australia has remained committed to our mission of promoting understanding, unity, and cooperation among Buddhist communities and other faiths across the state.

We were pleased to take part in the interfaith Round Table on Social Cohesion hosted by the Baha’i Community of WA, strengthening dialogue and mutual respect among different traditions. Our committee member Mr Boon Tan represented BCWA at numerous chaplaincy meetings, shared insights on Buddhist practices with the pastoral care team at St John of God Hospital, and was also invited as a speaker at the Rain Retreat in August, where he highlighted Buddhist perspectives on mindfulness and service.

Hon Secretary Sandra Henville has continued her dedicated role as BCWA’s contact for prison chaplaincy services, ensuring ongoing support for those seeking Buddhist guidance. Throughout the year, BCWA also assisted members of the public in arranging end-of-life chanting and funeral services, helping families honour Buddhist customs with compassion.

Although we were unable to hold the Vesak Day celebration at Parliament House this year due to venue unavailability, we remain hopeful to resume it in 2026 and beyond.

Finally, I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to every committee member for your patience, trust, and support. Your dedication keeps the Buddhist voice in Western Australia strong, united, and compassionate.

Thank you all.
