Our deepest sympathies and condolences to the Bondi attacks

Title: BCWA Statement on the Bondi Terror Attack on 14 December 2025

The Buddhist Council of Western Australia (BCWA) expresses our profound sorrow and shock at the horrific terrorist attack in Bondi, Sydney. We unequivocally condemn this act of violence and all actions that intentionally harm innocent people.

Our hearts go out to the victims, their families and loved ones, first responders, and everyone in the wider community who is grieving and feeling unsafe. We stand in solidarity with all Australians—especially communities directly affected—at this time of immense pain.

As Buddhists, we are guided by non-harming (ahimsa) and the cultivation of loving-kindness (metta) and compassion (karuna). Loving-kindness does not mean ignoring wrongdoing. It means responding to tragedy without hatred, and choosing unity, care, and wise action over fear and division.

BCWA calls on all communities to reject violence and hatred in every form, and to come together to protect social harmony and the dignity and safety of all people in Australia.

We invite our member organisations and the broader community to dedicate prayers, chanting, and acts of generosity in memory of those who have died, and to offer practical support to those who are injured, traumatised, or grieving.

May all who have suffered find comfort and safety.

May wisdom guide our actions.

May peace prevail in our land.

With Metta,

Buddhist Council of Western Australia (BCWA)
