BCWA Fundraising Dinner 2013

BCWA President Stewart Jarvis and Minister Mike NahanThe BCWA Fundraising Dinner 2013 was a success with over a hundred guests including the guest-of-honor Minister of  Citizenship and Multicultural Interests Dr Mike Nahan MLA and Ms Janine Freeman MLA representing the Leader of the Opposition.

It was an opportunity for members of the WA Buddhist community to meet each other as well as with other guests at a relaxed social setting. This is the first time a purely fundraising social event has been organised by the BCWA with two main aims; to raise money for the upkeep of our office at the AAA Building (which was the venue for the event) and to celebrate the unity of the WA Buddhist community.

Speeches by the President of the BCWA Mr Stewart Jarvis, Minister Dr Mike Nahan and the out-going president Don Weerakody celebrated the unity within the diversity of the different Buddhist groups comprising of the three main Buddhist traditions. Some of the concerns of the Buddhist community such as interfaith relations were also raised and discussed.

Live music was provided by the talented Phil Inn (Paul Beard) and there were two Raffle Draws. A Certificate of Appreciation was awarded to Mr U Tunhla of Tisarana Buddhist Association for his long-standing service to the BCWA since inception. BCWA would also like to thank Ms Norliah Ariyaratne for a job well done as Event Manager.
