Buddhist Perspective on Pastoral Care

On 7 August 2025, the Buddhist Council of Western Australia presented the Buddhist perspective on pastoral care to St John of God Hospital in Subiaco. The session aimed to help hospital staff better understand how to support Buddhist patients who are approaching the end of life, as well as those who have passed away, and to provide compassionate care for their families.
Representing the three major Buddhist traditions, the Buddhist Council was well placed to offer this guidance. Attendees included Boon Tan and Sandra Henville from the Theravāda tradition, Grace Davies representing both Mahāyāna and Vajrayāna traditions, along with members of the hospital’s pastoral care team.
This collaboration has strengthened the hospital’s capacity to meet the spiritual and cultural needs of Buddhist patients and their loved ones.
