The Tibetan Buddhist Society’s new temple was officially opened on Saturday 6th June 2009. The opening was attended by the leader of the opposition Mr Eric Ripper and other dignitaries.
On the Eve of Vesak Day 2009, Radio Fremantle broadcast a live 30 minute interview featuring Vesak Day observations in Perth. The radio presenter was Derek Cusick and the BCWA were represented by Jake and Kate.
The first BCWA meeting with Hon Minister John Castrilli focussed on visa issues for monks. The BCWA were represented by president Mr Stewart Jarvis, Ajahn Brahm and two other delgates.
The huge Jhana Grove Meditation Centre opened on 10th April 2009 with a huge turnout with many guests including former WA Premier Geoff Gallop. Please visit www.jhanagrove.org.au for more information. The Jhana Grove was opened by Ajahn Brahm and is a project of the Buddhist Society of Western Australia.
Several Buddhist organisations responded quickly to the tragedy and raised money for Red Cross Appeal. The Australian Buddhist Bliss Culture Mission in Willetons and the Sri Lankan Temple in Kelmscott organised fund raisers.
