The first BCWA meeting with Hon Minister John Castrilli focussed on visa issues for monks. The BCWA were represented by president Mr Stewart Jarvis, Ajahn Brahm and two other delgates.
The huge Jhana Grove Meditation Centre opened on 10th April 2009 with a huge turnout with many guests including former WA Premier Geoff Gallop. Please visit www.jhanagrove.org.au for more information. The Jhana Grove was opened by Ajahn Brahm and is a project of the Buddhist Society of Western Australia.
Several Buddhist organisations responded quickly to the tragedy and raised money for Red Cross Appeal. The Australian Buddhist Bliss Culture Mission in Willetons and the Sri Lankan Temple in Kelmscott organised fund raisers.
The food fair held at the Fremantle Esplanade last Sunday was an outstanding success! The weather was lovely and sunny which allowed thousands of people to pass through the food stalls and buy food with proceeds going to the victims of Cyclone Nargis.
