Detective Sergeant Paul Robinson from the Major Crime Squad said police arrested the 37-year-old Coolbellup man in the early hours of this morning. He will appear in Fremantle Magistrates Court tomorrow.

The arrest comes more than two weeks after Mr Lieu, 48, was found unconscious lying behind his blue Kia Carnival in a car park in Progress Drive, Bibra Lake at 5.30am on Sunday, January 10.

He suffered life-threatening injuries and died in Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital on Monday.

Det-Sgt Robinson said the arrest had come as a result of an intense, protracted police investigation.

But he would not reveal the alleged motive or if the accused man was an acquaintance of Mr Lieu.

“Detectives have expended a great deal of time and effort to achieve this result today,” he said.

“It will be alleged that the man that we have charged did act alone in this matter.

“As a result of the investigation and what we have uncovered, there is certainly no need for the public to have any fears.
