Vesak Message from Colin Barnett MLA Premier of WA
It is with great pleasure that I wish members of the Buddhist Council of Western Australia and the WA Buddhist community a very happy and festive Vesak Day.
As one of Australia’s most culturally diverse States, Western Australia is home to many faiths and cultures. WA’s Buddhists are a growing and valued part of our vibrant community and the Vesak Day celebration is one that offers all West Australians the opportunity to gain a greater understanding and appreciation of one of the world’s most significant religions.
The Buddha’s teachings of the importance of equality, respect and understanding are as relevant today as when they were first taught more than 2500 years ago, and provide a valuable guide for us.
I would like to commend the Buddhist Council of Western Australia for its role in developing and promoting the Buddhist community in WA, and for holding annual Vesak Day celebrations for the benefit of all West Australians. You have helped make our State a more diverse and dynamic society.
On the occasion of Vesak Day, I wish all Buddhists and their families in WA a happy and uplifting time and
trust that the day will bring you serenity and joy.
