Dhammapada books distributed to WA City Councils

The Buddhist Council of WA is pleased to announce that we have recently distributed about 40 copies of the Dhammapada to City Councils throughout Western Australia.

The suggestion for doing this came from the nuns of Dhammasara monastery who had noticed that during citizenship ceremonies conducted at City Councils there was no equivalent to the Bible and the Koran for Buddhists to use.

After deliberating which book out of the extensive Buddhist canon of scriptures, the Dhammapada was chosen by the BCWA committe for it’s popularity and cross-denominational appeal. The version of the Dhammapada is the 1971 English translation by Narada Maha Thera. You can read it here.

The copies of the Dhammapada had been specially printed for the BCWA from Sri Lanka.
